I think this is a holding place for him. It will get him some press experience, allow him to interview people he otherwise wouldn't be able to reach, and bide his time while making a little money - albeit not too much since OAN is hurting. It will also probably raise their ratings and help them.

Then - when Trump is ready - he can be brought into the fold for whatever plans Trump has for him. I believe he will be a special counsel.
