No assassin has a righteous motive murdering a CEO or politician. It's always for a cover-up reason.

That was the speculation since there was literally nothing else to go on.

This is speculation as well.

Thompson was the target of a insider trading investigation because he himself made millions doing the same stuff. How his testimony would impact literally anyone other than himself is not at all clear.

I'd hold off on the Oswald vibes just yet. This guy got a lawyer. Oswald was shot before he could get one.
