This looks like torture to keep him in line. Play with mafia-types, and you have to pay a price if you go off script somehow.

If this is the case, then you have to feel a little sorry for him. He's trapped, and is a slave to corruption. But yet, he made his choice to work with the devil, and he will probably suffer in the lake of fire for all of eternity. It would be better if he repented and switched sides, and begged for God's forgiveness.
