Appear weak when you are strong. The Russians turned Napoleon back using the fade/withdraw tactic, ending his eastern march into Russia and later leading to his loss at Waterloo.
Trump began his subtle withdrawal/fade the moment he was inaugurated escalating it all the way until this past late spring when suddenly he turned on the reverse afterburners. And then a slow but steady and strong march toward victory.
Indeed I am watching Syria with bated breath, as everyone melted out of the way of the head-choppers. I keep waiting for a trap to come down.
