Ok I got the site to work for me and I started reading through the forums.

Indeed, anyone can publish any data, any values, anywhere, anytime. You don't even need a counter; any browser will do.

I'm seeing the same thing. I see spikes of 400CPM or more, but the counter itself is chilling at 14CPM. It seems like there is a problem with the real-time monitoring data connection via the USB port. I think I'll just forego uploading bogus data to the map, it makes it look like I'm a mad scientist or something.

So anyone can post any value they want to into this site without any verification. Plus, some GQ Geiger Counters have an issue uploading data to the site and coming back with crazy inaccurate readouts.

That being said, I clicked on the hotspot in San Francisco that's currently reading at 1217CPM. Normal CPM is between 0-50. This particular meter updates every 6-10 mins and has been doing so for at least 3 days. The site pops up with an error if you try to load back farther than that. It changed to dangerous levels at 3AM this morning and has been sustaining these levels since.

I think it's a problem with the particular meters and not insane radioactive hotspots. I'm seeing lots of under 50CPM readouts in the surrounding areas. If things were dangerous in San Francisco, wouldn't the nearby meters be picking something up as well?
