Want to know what an excellent refrigerant is? PROPANE!!!! Of course the EPA would never want that to get out.
Propane is compatible with the old R22 AC systems and actually works better than R22. Just don't smoke while servicing a condensing unit.
The manufacturers of refrigerants work with the EPA to make sure that when their patent for a refrigerant expires, then suddenly it becomes an ozone depleting contaminant. Time to move on to the next expensive patented formulation. Just like big pharma.
