My US History teacher in HS spent a lot of time on the political cartoons from the 1830s through the Civil War. The memes of their day. Highly effective messaging. The Thomas Nast - Tammany Hall cartoons especially stick in my memory. This country has a great meme tradition.
Actually they wont understand why we had to meme. They will look at our truths as either self evident, or an Oxymoron...

My grandson gets a kick out of looking at memes so I can see this happening. We sit at my laptop and laugh like crazy.
