If I recall correctly, the strategic defense angle has been there all this while. I believe we still have a large Distant Early Warning radar station at Thule, on the northwestern coast of Greenland.
So do I. I think the Thule base is actually a lot more enormous than most of us realize. 28 floor DUMB, who the fuck knows. Lots of heavy surveillance equipment, probably a submarine underground storage/maintenance... you know... Bond Villan level shit. But I suspect they want to ramp that up even more, with the supersonic missiles from the ChiComs and the Russians, etc. And I also suspect there is a lot I do not suspect.
No, it is not. You can see its entirety from aerial photos. Pretty stark. It's all above ground. The radars are in protective geodesic domes. No Navy presence and no submarine capability (the place is ice-locked during winter). You can "suspect" a lot, but it would be fancy, not fact. https://www.petersonschriever.spaceforce.mil/Pituffik-SB-Greenland/
We've had that base for decades. Quite a lot is possible, in decades.
I think Mr spacerobot doesn't understand that when something is underground you can't see it
Look at the photos and tell me what you see. There are only buildings and radar domes. Not a lot is possible, because there would be no point in extravagant extra construction---on foreign soil---for what? They already had to move native villages to build what they have, and the recent renaming of the base is partly to honor and assuage the locals. Your imagination is NOT a primary reality.
