Because a newly-elected Speaker administers the oath of office to newly elected (and reelected) House members. The worry here is no speaker, no house members. You know - the people (along with senators) that count and object to the electoral votes. Without them, the votes can't be certified by cameltoe.
Here is an article that claims it is possible for either the clerk of the house to administer the oaths, or get the republicans to elect a temporary speaker for x days to get through J6 - then elect a permanent speaker:
Remember - one of our favorite moron RINO senators (Susan Collins) worked with Manchin to create a new law that changes the ability to object to electoral votes, requiring 20% of each house to agree. The bill did in fact pass and is a law.
In addition to Senators Collins, Manchin, the senators 22 Senators co-sponsoring the bill include: Rob Portman (R-OH), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mark Warner (D-VA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Todd Young (R-IN), Chris Coons (D-DE), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Pat Toomey (R-PA), and Maggie Hassan (D-NH).
Wait that's a good point...why the fuck do we need the speaker then???

Notice Grassley was a sponsor! If he is elected Senate President Pro Tempore and nothing is certified by 1/20, he will become Acting President.
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks. I like learning new (or relearning old) things. This one was a little of both for me.
🤷♀️ I thought the VP presided over the certification. Pence did.
