Nigel has his issues. Ironically, he is very pro-Indian, very pro-immigration, very civic-nationalism. There is a whole strain of thinking that Nigel is a placeman himself, there to prevent a "true" nationalist (iow he is not a nativist).
Nigel on record as preferring Indians over Polish for example, a statement he made to burnish his "anti-racist" credentials. This is something not everyone agrees with.
Obviously it's strange Elon would go for him given his own similar stance.
