When I was a kid, all along I-5 in SoCal there were small oil drills and they were painted. The one I remember the most was the one that was painted as a cartoon ant. Made the long boring drive more interesting!
You’re right. I’ve heard that story. The powerful families behind tire manufacturers also played apart. NYC has a ton of abandoned tunnels. Entire homeless cities.

I believe that most of that oil is sent to Texas by a pipeline where it is refined.
