President's Sworn In Without A Bible:1: Thomas Jefferson (1801): He did not use a Bible, likely out of commitment to the separation of church and state.2: John Quincy Adams (1825): He swore on a book of laws, symbolizing his commitment to the Constitution ...
i thought it was a dick-move by Roberts, to quick start the swearing-in, didn't even pause for FLOTUS to move into position...quite obvious to me, anyhow...
Trump should have stopped (loudly) until Melania was in place. Like in Trump fashion.
...Roberts rushed the process...
..the principle of parsimony....
well, i had to look up the meaning of your word, and you are absolutely right, imo...
...K.I.S.S. ....
...howls...
President's Sworn In Without A Bible:
1: Thomas Jefferson (1801): He did not use a Bible, likely out of commitment to the separation of church and state.
2: John Quincy Adams (1825): He swore on a book of laws, symbolizing his commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law rather than a religious text.
3: Theodore Roosevelt (1901): He was sworn in without a Bible after the assassination of President William McKinley while on vacation; the ceremony was rushed, and no Bible was available.
4: Calvin Coolidge (1923): When Coolidge was sworn in following the death of President Warren G. Harding, his father administered the oath without a Bible, adhering to Puritan ethics which frowned upon using objects as symbols of reverence.
17: Donald John Trump (2025):
Reason: TBD
Reason: Roberts is a douche and was rushing things.
Not quite as impactful as the other reason but good enough for me.
It was known and shown Trump was using the Bible his mother gave him and he spoke about why it was special to him.
Melania held the Bibles as close as she could to him, but unless he raised his pinkie, he didn’t put his left hand on it. Maybe they repeated the oath off camera once everything else was done.
The oath is done before the ceremony. This is just show for the public.
I disagree with the Jefferson reason. Letter to Danbury Baptist Association wasn’t until Jan 1 1802.
But he was a consistent opponent of Orthodox Christianity, and a long time deist long before that letter.
