Not shocking at all considering the inaugural committee went from planning for an outdoor ceremony to a small indoor ceremony. They had to completely replan, figure out who can attend and who can't, figure out seating, official entrances, where to put the talent - anything could easily go wrong. I'm impressed they remembered to plug the microphone in for the podium.
I'd bet that the sound tech or someone hit the pfl button (pre-fader level) on the mixer, so even though the channel was unmuted and showing level response on the meter, no sound is passed to the amp = nuttin'.
Problem that can be easilly missed. I've run into it too many times (others pressing it) to miss it.
I think it was a technical malfunction but if it was sabotage then the joke’s on them because she killed it!

Exactly! We have technical problems at church, and that is the same room, used four times a week, at least...and no bomb dogs "nosing" around.
Different people responsible for different things.
Shit happens.
She handled it like a pro.
She is a pro!
No, I think it was a “glitch”. Even if it was deliberate, she carried on admirably and did a fantastic job.
...Billy Ray Cyrus just experienced a "glitch" with his performance tonight...
...there are no coincidences...
I saw when his guitar failed to come on. That seemed too coincidental to me....

...answer the phone, it is the White House calling about a sound system manager position...
They didn't try turning it off and back on again? Their IT crowd needs to be fired.
I was referencing the Billy Ray Cyrus issue.
Most mixers I've used if the button is depressed, turning off and on again (IT Crowd = ), doesn't change a thing.
To be fair to the people running the show, last minute relocation of a designed show, especially this complicated, is going to have an issue or 50.
The planning is immense!!!
She did well enough without the music.
Music was about to stop. Now it stopped
