Season 9 Episode 1: Lotto Lies: The Gamble That Never Paid Off - Texas Scorecard
Texans were told the lottery would fund education, but that was a lie. Examine the lottery’s predatory nature, and how the agency that administers the game has a bad habit […]
Since we are on the topic of Gambling. 20 years ago they banned on-line gambling in the US because of the economic damage to individuals and the collective Nation. Why was it allowed to continue under Biden? This needs to be shut down, since you're going after the Cartels. Or transfer ownership to the States & Nation and make sure the benefits fund Education & Infrastructure improvements.
I do not play lottery or gamble in casino. I do go to Las Vegas sometimes with my family and just walk around. I never thought the money would be going for education or environment. I was right. Damn.
Brick & Mortal Casinos are one thing. Access to gambling at your finger tips is another. FYI, I watch Vegas Matt daily. He losses his money, so you don't.
Vegas Matt? I never heard of him.
He, along with a few friends, gamble everyday. Mostly at the El Cortez Casino in LV. Their banter never gets old. Vegas Matt has a quick wit, a good heart and often no filter.
Ok. I will check him out. I don't gamble so it is probably boring to me.
He is a living Testimonial to the power of Social Media Influence. Apparently the El Cortez Casino is experiencing a huge volume in new business as a result of Vegas Matt. It all started from a chance meeting with Vegas Matt and the wife of the Casino Manager. She convinced her husband to let him film in the Casino. He asked the old owner and he said let's give it a try. The rest is history, as they say.
Although it said Texas Lotto, but it's probably the same all around.
They’re trying to get casinos into the state now, too.
Learn to just say no.
True story, wife and I won 5 dollars, went in and tried to cash it. Store clerk, it's too old. ??? What, you waited too long. It's a valid ticket but you have to mail it to them and then they will cut you a check for the five dollars. So, they now created hoops of flaming dogshit for you to cash in a stupid five dollar lottery ticket. My wife threw it away. Works great, exactly like it was designed. Now they get to keep the winnings as well.
Scam
I always assumed this was true. For the record I do buy lottery tickets every once in a while when the pot gets big enough to justify spending a few dollars a week (I refuse to buy more than one ticker per drawing for myself). But I never really believed all of that unclaimed prizes and taxes went to education. I always assumed it went into someone's slush fund or pocket.
I actually know a few people IRL who HAVE won the lottery, including the grand prize on those "Win X amount every week/day for life" lotteries, so I generally give them a little a bit of credit compared to other government backed organizations when it comes to legitimacy. But I always assumed it was never 100% on the up and up.
In Michigan when they add “lottery” money to the educational fund they move the same amount to the general fund. So education has not benefited one cent ever.
