Why heavily armed?
Most of the illegal immigrants aren't carrying artillery. They are mostly weaponless and just want to cross our border illegally. Doesn't require massive firepower to repel that.
The cartels are heavily armed, but aren't about to challenge U.S. Marines to a fight .

This right here. Plus, fuck these people coming illegally. Nothing says FAFO like a Marine manning a turret mounted .50 on top of a humvee.
