Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

I have used butter on my hands too on occasion. For my face, I have been using an amber glass bottle to spray a very fine mist of ordinary distilled of water on my face followed by a few small drops of almond oil (a little goes a long way) for my face, and so far this combo seems to work best out of everything I have tried for my skin type. I have stopped wearing foundation makeup on my face completely and love the way my complexion has improved. I do however still have to enhance my eyes a bit, so I still line them and apply mascara, but I after trying so many non-toxic brands, it took a while but I finally finally found a non-toxic cosmetics company I like, (expensive though) to purchase my eyeliner and mascara. I tried making my own ... I failed LOL
I’m glad you have a system that works for you. Sadly, if we won’t non toxic plant based skin care we have to pay more than drug store junk costs. The extra costs is worth it for multiple reasons. I also like supporting smaller businesses instead of the big corporations. I’m in new territory with dry skin, it’s always been really oily. It gradually got dryer over the last ten years and now even my face is dry. I spend way too much on face and skin products. I only buy 100% non toxic, fragrance free, including no natural fragrance. Natural fragrance is fine. I don’t take the risk because I’m highly allergic or just don’t like certain scents, especially floral. That includes everything I put on my body. I don’t even want to know a total of what I spend. Too scary! It’s taken a long time to figure out what works and what’s good quality. If I had extra room I’d make everything. I don’t have the space to keep all the ingredients. Plus the ingredients, natural preservative free expires, mainly will turn rancid. I would not make makeup, that looks too complicated. I’ve found a few good shops on Etsy for skincare. One shop is amazing, you can’t get this type of customer service from big brands. Other brands are bigger but still not huge brands. I have rarely worn makeup over the last ten years. Always had it on hand because I wore it if going out. Then 2020 hit, didn’t go anywhere, makeup expired. Daughter got married 2021, bought more. Found it last year and tossed it. Just ordered some, wanted to wear again. Haven’t tried it yet🤦🏻♀️
I’m still trying to figure out what oil works for me. Hemp oil was great back when my skin was oily. I can’t use coconut oil, dried me out when I was oily, can’t imagine now. I’ve got several different carrier oils & essential oils. I need to restock, love frankincense EO & hydrosol, love the scent and it’s great for skin. Just doesn’t help my dry skin on legs, feet & hands. I’ve been using skin restorative body butter on hands & feet. It’s too early to tell a difference. I think I’m going to order a body oil blend with several oils & castor oil. Still researching. Thanks for your tips.
