An earthquake hit the Caribbean Sea © NOAA/Earthstar Goegraphics/ESRI An estimated magnitude 76 earthquake hit the Caribbean Sea on Saturday, north of Honduras, and neighboring islands and countries issued potential tsunami warnings.
Initially, the Tsunami Warning Center reported a magnitude 8 earthquake before revising it.
The earthquake was felt 202 km southwest of George Town in the Cayman Islands.

Earthquakes of this size are often notorious for generating "tsunamis dangerous to shorelines near the source," the NWS said, referring people to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center for updates.
In December 2024, an estimated magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked several countries across the Caribbean, leading to an emergency assessment of disaster relief operations.

Sad news, I hope there is not much damage. I've been there, really nice island. Great people on the island. There are feral chickens running around the place. When I first arrived i thought they took free range chickens to a new level. Highly recommend going to the Turtle Hatchery.

Tsunami warning update just hit. 1 - 3 meter tsunami expected to hit coast of Cuba. .3 to 1 meter expected Cayman Is, Honduros.
About 3-10 feet. Not good.
