Property taxes are local, not state. So we’d need to do a constitutional amendment (requires 60% of voters to approve) to eliminate them (which I would support) or even to reform/lower them…
We should put the boldest amendment on the ballot that has a chance of getting that 60%…
I agree that taxing land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective form of taxation…

I agree. But if property taxes are abolished, my concern would be that the state legislatures would just pass a 40% sales tax, so they could keep on dipping their hands into the till.
There will have to be a 'Cleaning/Culling at the State & local level.
First we clean up the waste, fraud and abuse then we renegotiate tax rates. This is how I see it.
I have a paid off mortgage but property taxes turned me into a renter who pays about 450 dollars a month to stay in the house I built with my own hands on land that was nothing but trees and meadows and is now a functioning small farm with pastureland.
Ill pay income taxes and sales taxes but get rid of this abhorrent property tax.
The school tax is usually a big part of the property tax & the kids are dumbed down.
