The whole process is so automated now I never ended up talking to anyone. You upload documents, give them permission to pull your credit and get your tax returns from the IRS, arrange repayment, put in your bank information, sign the loan documents on line and you never have any direct communication with a soul . No email exchange, no phone calls, nothing. Next thing you know the money is in your account and then 30 days later they start drawing monthly payments. I've waited at the deli line longer than this took for a 30 year $25k loan. It's kinda nuts I never expected it to go so smooth but I wondered about fraud.
At least with FEMA you had your initial interview with a real person on the phone who went over every detail of your case. It was a 40 minute call and my case was very simple, involving little money. 🤷♂️
filing for VA benefits for my mother from my fathers time served, was a nightmare.
they wanted everything, tons and tons of forms to fill out, sitting in an actual office with VA worker for hours, they wanted his life and her life histories and they also wanted my life history since i pay her bills for her. i told them there is no way in hell they are getting my info. her and i have separate checking accounts. but since i'm POA of her they wanted my info to track both my checking account and hers.
if the money is going directly into her account, couldn't they track if any funny business was going on??? why would they need my info?
i told them in no way are they getting my information, they can send their check directly to the nursing home. they ended up setting up a neutral accountant place to send the money, then they charge $25 a month to automatically send to the nursing home instead of into her checking account.
Wow. I'm sorry it was such a hassle for you. Glad you didn't cave on giving your personal information. My brother works at the VA, he says the administration is full of lazy mid wits and a few rock solid guys who do 80 percent of the work. He's grateful for the relaxed pace after slugging it out in a tough urban area for many decades doing emergency medicine. But he thinks even hands on providers are " underutilized ". And some of the new hires, let's just say they are apologetic if you ask them to do any work.
I gotta tell you I think they have all our transactional and personal information readily available to them. Literally within minutes of applying for a loan they asked very detailed information, some from years prior, to complete " identity verification ". They even knew where I went to elementary school. What? I was 59 at the time. Cars I no longer owned. It was pretty eye opening. And the speed they retrieved and verified information was shocking. Idk, I have no social media presence, I still have an android flip phone and I think if you Googled me you would get a blank page. So there's no doubt they are compiling and centralizing large parts of our " personal" information" whether we are aware or not. But as you pointed out the illegals don't seem to be subject to any such scrutiny. Thanks for the chat. Be well.

i also believe they have all of our info readily available to them. they make it a difficult process on purpose.
i'm sure they have all my info, i just wasn't going to give my authority to them to do it. as if they need it.
thanks fren, have a blessed day.
