I don't know anything about the VA & mortgages, but when we recently bought a house I looked through the title history & saw that when mortgages were paid off the lender signed a release of mortgage & the borrower filed it with the county clerk's office as an official record. (Update - Corrected my original wording from City clerk to county clerk.) When you paid it off did you get a release of mortgage from the VA? If so, file it with your city clerk's office as an official record. Ask the VA for one if you didn't get one. Dear Lord, help them get this sorted out! I ask this in Jesus Mighty name! Amen.

In many places it would be the county Recorder’s office where real estate documents are recorded.
But yes - check your local records to confirm you have a release filled if your note is paid off.
Filing with the county makes sense. Thanks for correcting me! I changed my original post. Thanks!
We will most definitely look into that. Thank you for taking the time and amen in Jesus name! 😀
