There are only roughly 57,000 people, and Grok thinks there are between about 39k and 42k voters. They have self-governance and are legally allowed to leave Denmark and become an independent country.
If Trump could convince them to join us after voting for independence they could ally with us or vote to ask us to become a territory, and later at some point ask for statehood. The "ally" part is most likely in the short term.
