Texas orders state employees to return to in-person work by the end of March
Plans for returning to the office will be overseen by each state agency, but some exceptions to in-person work exist, including if an employee’s work is conducted in the field, or if there is limited office space because of renovations.
Yes...and that's being too generous..
As someone who works 100% remote and even quit my previous job and took a pay cut in order to keep working from home, I have mixed feelings about these orders.
I have 5 kids, and when I worked in an office and had 10 hour days plus an hour and a half drive on each end, I never saw them.
I noticed huge improvements in my relationship with them during the mandatory work from home period during covid and vowed to never go back to how things were.
I actually get a lot more done and am less distracted working from my home office.
We of course want out public servants to not have multiple jobs and eliminate bad workers, but generally, there's got to be better ways of accomplishing those things with proper management instead of sweeping return to office mandates.

...there are exceptions to every rule...
...in this instance, you are it...
...carry on...
Give people an inch and they take a mile... Hard to get people to do their jobs in a work environment, much less while sitting in their underwear, or working another job...

...and the lack of it belies true effort...
I work in security, and have worked with, drug addicts, criminals, and crazy people and that's just in this building. A great job in that you can get things done for yourself while on duty, but I make sure that myself, the tenants, and their property is safe during my shifts. I can't do anything about other shifts.
And all those people working 100% remote decided to move somewhere nice. Maybe even another state. Long commutes now!
Texas isn't nice!?? Ok fine the big cities are all shit..
