...and taking a licking.
Extra trivia points if you can identify that saying. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
YOU WIN! Thanks for playing.
Nowadays, any time I get into a discussion of age, generations, or social phenomena, I always refer folks to the 1997 book, "The Fourth Turning." It describes perfectly what has been going on since the end of WWII, and even further back in history. It has to do with generational "turnings" and that history is not linear, but cyclical. Where you fall into a generation (or mid-generation) is key to how you interact with the world.
It is a stunning book and theory of human behavior. Right now (from 2000 to 2025) we have been in another Fourth Turning, always a 20-25-year era of 'crisis.' We are coming out of that turning into yet another 20-25-year era, a First Turning, of prosperity, relative peace, and a triumphant period of strength.
The book predicted that at the end of the current Fourth Turning, as has happened in all other Fourth Turnings throughout history, a "grey champion" would arise from the people to lead us out of the 'crisis' turning and into the next First Turing of peace and prosperity. I truly believe that Pres. Trump IS that grey champion, an older mentor and leader that people can coalesce around.
This is going to be a truly Golden Age that we are going to enter into.
Gen X technically started in 1965. It's fun being Gen X - just claim it and don't tell anyone otherwise. Some of us were lucky when (and for that matter - where) we were born, and others seized it for themselves.
