Seriously... the unintentional (or was it?) effect of designing for manufacturing (plastic, smooth, "dead" designs, optimized for fast carving, casting etc) - of bad taste...
Crappy 2x3 framed boxes, furnished with even cheaper boxes (IKEA etc)... Whatever "state of the art of polishing a turd" is.... let's see just how cheap we can make this material for... take whatever cheap manufacturing scrap you have, add formaldehyde glue/binders and press it into a delicious sheet of cancerous outgassing material and you're all set... when they get wise to it making people sick, just switch it up to whatever new scrap source you have, rinse and repeat.
