There are two perspectives on what a "Semite" is.
Biblical perspective -- People who were biological descendants of Shem (aka Sem) in the Bible.
Secular Perspective -- People who spoke a Semitic language at one time in the past.
People SAY that the secular perspective means that arabs are Semites. But, that is false.
At the time that the Semitic languages were used (Hebrew & Aramaic), the people who lived in the region of Mesopotamia were all White.
The arabs came in much later.
Even Egypt was populated by White people, 3,000 years ago. They are the ones who built those pyramids.
The arabs came in later, and the Whites left for Europe. Whites also reached Europe via the Caucusus Mountains (which is why they are called "Caucasian").
When the arabs moved in, they spoke Arabic, and the modern day "scholars" have lumped that language, and even African languages, into "Semitic."
But the original people living in the area were White.
From the Biblical perspective, the descendants of Shem were all White.
These are the Semites (and also the Hebrews and the Israelites).
Although jews have some element of semitic blood, they are a mixed race -- mixed with non-semitic blood, which means they are NOT Semites.
They are the Edomites, which were mixed with the Canaanites and Kenites.
I realize this is not the "mainstream" view, but if you do the research, this is what you will find.
