My uncle lied about his age to join the Navy. Retired at 70.
Same here .. Mine was a tank Jockey.. Started in North Africa serving under Patton.. Had 3Tanks blown up and then drove the 4th into Berlin..

My dad lied about his age to get a military job so he could help his parents financially during the depression.
After serving in WW2 in the AF as a head mechanic he ended going to college to become a Mechanical Engineer.
He stayed in the AF reserves until he retired as a Lt Colonel and is currently buried with my mom in Arlington National Cemetery.
I swear Gene Hackman must have looked 50+ when he graduated high school.
