I would have said that the "season of sacrifice" would be at Samhain/Halloween - the end of the summer and the end of the year - the second full moon after the Autumn Equinox - the time when food animals were slaughtered and the meat stored in the colder weather - and the reason why Halloween is filled with frightening images.
