Tbf the real issue is more likely with “deterrence”.
Speed tickets are meant to deter “mis”-“demeanor” behavior, correct?
This narrative is shaped in a clearly stupid way, on purpose probably, but if we are doing civil deterrences for non-actual-crimes/injuries, it actually does make some sense for a speeding ticket to cost more for wealthier people than poor people, as a higher amount is needed to be a deterrent.
By shaping the same action as a discount, instead of a hiked price, they’re reframing the issue around “equity”, which nobody likes.
I don’t necessarily know the best solution for this issue, but what I would guess is the best way to go is that if someone has clearly been negligent, or intentionally caused harm, then the amount to make the issue right should likely be higher.
The Old Testament has a lot of guidance on these sorts of issues that the church pretty well completely ignores - to the point that nobody even realizes it’s there. I recently almost needed to look into it on a problem I was having. Those guides are likely what Jesus was referring to in Matthew 5:25.
Exactly. There may be a way to completely deter speeding, if it’s been a problem to such a degree that it’s necessary in a location, but signs and manual ticketing-as-passive-revenue is absolutely not it.
That is blatantly unconstitutional.
'course
I haven't set foot in San Francisco for a couple of decades. I'm surprised anyone is still there.
I was there 8 years ago but that's about it.

Oh the old testament teaches you how to live peacefully and equitably in every way. I love the Bible.
The wealthy commonly speed where I'm from, because a fine is merely pocket change to them. They brag about it saying "I can afford the ticket"
My insurance doesn't like tickets

2026 headline:
Auto Fatalities Double in San Francisco
That's right.
It's illegal and they really don't care.
In Ohio 12 pts in a year you lose your license
They are all illegal and criminal.
80% discount? LOL.
Cool loophole for those milionaires that have their retirement monies in a Roth IRA!
