Funny coming from the guy who formed the FBI and used it to blackmail politicians. The crime fighting aspect was simply for public consumption and funding. He stayed the director as long as he did because the pols were afraid of him. When asked why he didn't fire Hoover and appoint a new director Nixon said, because he scares the shit out of me.
