Worse yet, it turns out, when you investigate the bureaucracy, the bureaucracy investigates you back. Less than 48 hours later, as has previously been reported, an associate dean my model warned could be redundant (her role overlapped with other deans on the discipline team and she was the only one without a JD) informed me I was under review for “emotional/psychological harm,” “misrepresentation,” “invasion of privacy,” and “violation of operational rules.”
When bureaucrats who dont have real jobs try and do bullying, it shows they dont really understand their position. 1 'administrator' for every two students! No wonder it appears all the $ being paid in fees seem like they are not being used for anything needed, like building upkeep.
I think you would have appreciated a drop in tuition fees more. But thats just my take. The best part about more disposable income is that you then have more flexibility in paying for advice or hiring a tutor for tough subjects as the need comes up as you progress through the course material.
No idea how other schools work, but I worked for a university where all faculty members were required to be advisors to a certain number of students. They did not get extra pay or meaningless titles. They advised the students in their own disciplines, and that system worked perfectly. Private institution where money was spent wisely, and careful tracking of expenses were done.
The whole 4 year college model is outdated. Its ridiculously expensive and inefficient and has been for a long, long time. So much wasted time and resources.
If you are capable of earning a college degree, you can learn 80 or more of on your own with on line tools. What we truly need is those special educators with real world experience to take us beyond the text book and lab assignments. To teach us how to properly assess a situation, think critically and come up with real solutions. Critical and creative thinking is what should be cultivated to those dedicated to be left time learners, the rest is nonsense.
If you want pieces of paper to satisfy employers, just cram some basics in a 18 month program, print a diploma and call it a day.
I attended a land grant college and in later years after working with a few of ivy league's brightest, concluded that my education was pretty darn good. I had smaller classes generally taught by people who were passionate about their subjects.
Colleges have been outdated and inefficient for decades. I remember questioning why I had to take stupid “core” classes which did me no good, wasting my time and money. I was told it was to make me educated and well rounded. I was right about how the courses were wasteful and actually harmful to young (mostly) people.
Time for changes! Akiani’s parents made a smart choice. Her art was incredible, and they decided she didnt need much of what was included in school curriculum. I appreciate the fact that it gives her more time to share her extraordinary talents.
I somewhat disagree. This is a problem today where people can be a CPA or something but not know how to fix a toilet or use a hand tool. People know one thing and are clueless about literally everything else. Not sure what the appropriate blend or solution should be but I do agree college is outdated in general.

That alone isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I remember being a clueless student and would have appreciated some 1:1 guidance.

The math never adds up. That’s why we need DOGE type audits everywhere.
100k.... Fuck me, the average college-student must be dumb as fuck or just rich.
It was used to teach you to hate greedy corporations.
Greedy professors, not so much.

Ah that is helpful, thanks.
Maybe DOGE at colleges will become a challenge wave. Like the 1950's wave to get as many kids as possible into a telephone booth.
