Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

It’s a good topic, there’s scientific, economic, spiritual, medical and philosophical oppressions. On a less serious note, here’s the “Help, I’m being repressed”scene from Monty Python Quest for the Holy Grail 17 sec. short clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8ukak8P2vY ____ and a longer 3 min. clip with more context to that scene from the movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtYU87QNjPw (King Arthur oppressing one of the peasants)
back to seriousness — I studied a little bit of Law of Attraction stuff over the last week. Part of the teaching is that when something bad happens, that’s because the person harmed had negative thoughts and attracted the harm. Now if I’m thinking negatively, get distracted, and ignore the signs from a bad driver near me who is drunk, and I don’t get further away to a safe distance, I might be inviting trouble.
But I can’t buy the idea that this universal law is causing a child just living a happy life to get kidnapped, that there’s a universal principle that the child invited that harm by negative thoughts that emanated from the child out into the universe. So from the tapes I’m listening to, there are good habits that can be developed by thinking positively, but I’ll be asking God (not the universe) for guidance and blessings, and how to overcome adversities whether being robbed or adverse health situation. Who is God? I leave that for each individual to discover, and for the GAW mission, WWG1WGA!
I, too, struggle with these questions. Have you read The Law of One? According to that, all your experiences have been agreed to by your higher self for the purpose of learning -- especially the negative experiences.
I have not read it. Bill Cooper, I believe it was at one of the annual convention she hosted simply said about these things, “No,” certainly not in the case of children. And that’s part of why he did the Mystery Babylon series, to show what the powerful people in the world believe, and to show where its teachings have permeated into culture and society, and what needs to come to light and be opposed. (In his life, he needed some big guys to be his match, in terms of stature and toughness, and who could bring healing from the Vietnam war nightmare, as well. He had friends, but for some, Vietnam was too traumatic in terms of guilt. I did not experience that, I am younger, so I cannot judge, but just learn from the his life, and emulate the good and take heed to avoid the bad and sad parts of his life. ____ = a good reason to read some biographies. The first California Japanese- American Senator was based, 1970s Sen. Hayakawa: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/310553.S_I_Hayakawa# ” “In a very real sense, people who have read good literature have lived more than people who cannot or will not read.”
Life is a learning experience, and I go with the traditional simple teachings of Moses, precautions and admonitions given by “prophets like Isaiah and Daniel, and Christ who came from the Father to show how to follow the teachings of Moses. Are English copies we have perfect? Are there things n the Law of Moses objectionable such as certain death penalties? I think the penalties were given not so much as to do them, but to learn and weigh out in the mind how damaging certain behaviors are to the body and soul, and by contemplating consequences, lessons are learned without those consequences ever having been administered.
Then history and science exploration, the Shroud of Turin, and certain historical facts in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - these stand out to me as compelling. Certain local preachers, and “as-seen-on-TV” ministers and “miracle-workers” are bogus. And in the Gospels some errors have crept in, I. think things were added in from the originals, but for me, some miracles including the Resurrection are real.
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm moved more than you know and feel like someone's prayed for me.
The point is you don’t have a “higher-self or ego” except God. Any other causing a push against him is the devil. But God always wins as long as He is your focus and not your “higher self aka ego”.
I always interpreted that as to not ruminate in fear or resentment, as an adult.
That’s a good interpretation. Certain negative people around me often replay over and over in my mind, and iit would be easy to get even, but it is better to not resent, and to associate with positive people and get more exciting and beautiful experiences in life.
