Something would have to happen to Roberts. He has it for life or until he steps down from the bench from what I understand. Chief J is not just a designation, it's an actual job-titled-position that is not transferable to another Justice 'slot'. (that's really poorly worded but hope it makes some sense)
Judicial appointments are not for life, but for periods of good behavior. Article 3 of the US Constitution. If some of the things that we suspect him of doing are publicly proven, he can and should be removed and prosecuted. That would be an ample time for President Trump to appoint CT to CJ.
Please refresh me on what we suspect he has done? The only things that come to mind are (1) possible paperwork issues with adopting his now grown kids from Ireland and (2) being in some 'secret' judge club along with 2 other SC justices (both libs) which is not illegal. Worst case, the 'club' might seem to make him and the others impartial, which would be an ethics violation. Sure, we don't like the way he has fallen in several of his last decisions but I cannot see them reaching the level of a successful impeachment or removal. I think we just have bad luck on that member with regards to our causes.

The supreme court should be a 10-year appointment and that's it.
I like that. Same with congress members.
