Talking about rare earth minerals in the slag pits. The stuff has just been sitting on top of the ground in waste piles for a century now and a large percentage of these old abandoned waste pits are in Kentucky coincidentally enough.

Quick! Someone with a few billion to spare open up a rare earth refinery! That's why it's just been left to abandonment. We have to export to China to refine rare earth minerals.
