So I had a chance to chat today with a mixed group of Cubans, Haitians, and Venezuelans who came to the U.S. using Biden's "CBP One" phone app.

Bottom line, they are digging in their heels and believe that "this too shall pass" and they will somehow be allowed to stay. They've heard the threats of deportation and $1000/day fines but they still have no intention to return home.

I asked if they have thought about going to a third country... they are not interested in that option. It's almost as if they think what they did was legal because they used the almighty Cell Phone to do it.

They are losing their work permits but that still doesn't change their minds... they just look for employers that will hire them without a work permit. Factory jobs and fast food, they told me, are some options they are finding open to them.

It's going to to take some very visible mass deportation raids to put any ounce of fear into that community. They truly think the government is bluffing and Trump won't get his way. They believe they are too numerous to deport and that if they stick together everything will turn out OK.

Some of the older women seem homesick enough to want to go back, but their younger family members urge them to stay in the U.S. Perhaps there is a way the administration can drive a wedge between the deportation resisters and those who have had enough of America.
