I'm sure they will make it painful to resist, but I'm not planning to get it. Anyone else holding out, or is this one hopeless?

It is not painless. The lines are long, wait times can be all day at least in Tennessee, and you are required to bring multiple documents to prove your name, residence, and in some cases birth records.
You do not need a real ID if you wish to carry a passport when you fly.
It appears that all renewals for driver licenses will eventually require real ID.
All drivers licenses when renewed are automatically renewed with REAL ID aspects built right into the drivers license and the license card will have a golden yellow white circle in the top right hand corner of the license with a white star in the center of the circle.
You need birth certificate to get a passport, a clearance or to register for little league football or baseball. I made a dozen copies of my kid's birth certificate so I would have them for anything they signed up for. Ironically, these requirements were in the state of Maryland, home of good fathers.
No, they are not. They did not give me real ID last year,. I had my passport, but the third ID was my Foid card. They didn't take it. She simply said, you have a passport, you are Ok.
Tennessee is just inefficient then. Mine was issued when I changed D.Ls from Nevada to Florida. Took an hour total including the wait.
