Everyone should get and keep an official copy of their birth certificate anyway. I can't recall what I needed mine for but I've needed the one with the raised seal 3 times in my life so far (one of which was to get my Real ID a few years back). It can take a little while to get to you, so I'd suggest ordering one and putting it in your safe so you have it when you need it. You can make copies, but it is like a death certificate.

Sometimes you need an original and sometimes the place you are dealing with will accept a copy. (I'm still taking care of some things that are outstanding after my Mom died last September - just sent a copy 3 days ago to another place). It was even worse for my Mom because she lived in Florida. They have a short and a long form death certificate so you need to be sure which one these places will need before sending them one. PITA.
