I don't happen to believe that. Xi is a hard core Maoist and is trying to institute his own version of the Cultural Revolution. He has his own designs on world hegemony. In addition, it appears that Xi is actually losing much of his control and may be removed himself. He may have already lost control of the military and many of his hand picked placements are systematically being purged. Have you seen him lately? His hair has greyed almost overnight and he does not look well which may validate the rumors that he had a stroke last year. It is hard to know for sure because CCP leadership is a black box. Most China experts are in agreement however, that there is a major power struggle taking place within the CCP and that Xi's days may be numbered. The rest of the CCP will let him take the fall for the failing economy and geopolitical fallout. How much power he still has is up for debate.
Here are a few things I have heard about Xi.
His father was severely persecuted (tortured) by the CCP. When he came to power, he was the first President in China to establish his own security team taking control of his security away from the party apparatus. During his period, there have been massive corruption purges targeting the rank and file lower level CCP party controllers, like magistrates and regional officials. His power base is Beijing, whereas the power base for Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao is (was) in Shanghai. Jiang and Hu were responsible for establishing the persecution of Falun Gung, human organ harvesting and slave camps.
A few other things to consider. Trumps relationship with Xi has always appeared very similar to his relationship with Putin. He constantly says good things about Xi, and Putin in general, as opposed to what he says about globalist leaders. George Soros labelled Xi as the greatest threat to 'democracy', whereas Xi's propaganda referred to Soros as the Spawn of Satan.
Consider also what Trump has had to do in order to win power as Potus, and navigate the Deep State in America, bringing in change while cooperating with all sorts of garbage that we know are deep state. What would it look like in China if someone wanted to overthrow the corrupt CCP system? Could it be done in a few years, in a decade? What would that person have to do to obtain power, navigate the system in order to fundamentally change it?
I think that at a minimum, that person would have to look 100% like a CCP dictator, and act like a CCP dictator while pursuing his objectives. It would be 10 times worse and more difficult than what Trump has to deal with.
For these reasons, I give a certain amount of credit to the idea that in fact Trump, Putin and Xi are cooperating to destroy the worldwide globalist system while working to overcome the deep state structure within their own nations. Each nation being very different in culture, historical power structures, etc, each of these leaders have had to act in certain unique ways, but there are some very curious similarities between them all.
Ultimately, the inner workings of each of these nations is - as you say - a black box, so it is possibly impossible to actually know what Xi is doing, but I suppose time will tell.
