I always thought Q's Godfather 3 reference was a nod to the mysterious death of "God's Banker" Roberto Calvi. One of the most influential Vatican financiers of his time. Calvi's death is an important subplot in Godfather 3. In real life, Roberto Calvi fled to London in 1982 under a fake passport, but was later found hanging from a bridge (ruled as murder).
