Fred Trump financed the John Birch Society and he knew Robert Welch as a personal friend, the Society's founder. I learn something new everyday!
My parents were JBS-ers in the 1960's and '70's, and we subscribed to American Opinion and Review of the News.
From 1963-1974, we attended the New England Rally for God Family and Country held for 4 days over the July 4 holiday at what was then known as The Statler Hilton in Boston, MA (today known as The Park Plaza). The JBS was based in nearby Belmont, MA. The Rally was a kind of Viet Nam era fore-runner to today's Turning Point USA, and CPAC conferences.
Had the privilege of personally meeting conservative authors and politicians of the time: Taylor Caldwell ("Captains and Kings"), E. Merrill Root (poet), George Schuyler ("Black and Conservative"), Dan Smoot ("The Invisible Government"), G. Edward Griffin ("The Creature from Jekyll Island"), Gary Allen ("None Dare Call it Conspiracy"), W. Cleon Skousen ("The Naked Communist," "The Naked Capitalist"), John Schmitz (R-CA)/Tom Anderson (1972 American Independent Party candidates for Pres/VP), John Ashbrook (R-OH) - even met the actor, John Brennan (played Grandpa on "The Real McCoys" TV show)
way cool, I’ve read a book or booklet by Dan Smoot when I was in college in the ‘90s, but you got to meet him and other great activists for constitutional American values!
Being a former FBI guy he had a real "G-man" presence.
I never called the US of A a "democracy" in part because Woodrow Wilson tried to corrupt the language and get everyone locked in to the democracy = Democrat theme. I was happy to let the association of republican = Republican though.
Smoot sums up the difference between Democracy and Republic nicely:

What a story - nice! I don’t know too much about JBS - skimmed it years ago, but am now more interested.
This was posted to GAW last week.

I was in attendance at the New England Rally for God, Family, and Country in 1974, where this final speech was given.
Thx👍
