He publicly repented of being fooled. He repeatedly stated his new position and told everyone how he had been fooled and what he learned from it as well as stated his new position multiple times.
Many people were fooled.by "the experts". Many people changed their minds. Not many people had the humility to publicly admit they were wrong.
If we don't welcome with open arms people that are waking up You're only encouraging people to stay asleep.
