One idea I have seen for this world which actually sort of seems to make sense: our souls come from a place where it is easy to be good because you can feel what others feel, and if you hurt somebody that hurts you as well. But we should learn how to be good without that, because only then it is true. So we come or are send here, where we are all isolated from each other, and don't remember where we come from.
yes, I remember knowing this as a child in the 70's,; felt like life was a 'show'. perhaps this is a 'practice' world, to weed out bad behavior...
