You should look into "The Intention Experiment" book by Lynn McTaggart. It's along the same lines but goes into additional things affected by thoughts (for example, plants).
I struggle with this and have prayed about it many times. My brain will think an ugly thought about someone and I try to stop that, but if the bad thought pops into my head, then I try to follow up with an "I love you" thought (or whisper) to the subject of my bad thought because of what that bad energy might have done once I've put it out there. It really dismays me that I am so ugly on the inside to be capable of derogatory or hateful thoughts about fellow human beings. So I keep praying about it and keep following up a bad thought with a good one.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”Philippians 4:8 I think. I too struggle with this one. Snark was my first language
You are human. All humans are capable of ugly, negative thoughts. All humans have bad days where they think them, or worse ones when they express them with negative actions.
You are human. You strive to be better than the you that existed yesterday. You strive to do good for a world that often appears hell bent on being evil, and think positively about things.
Be glad you recognise the human condition and strive to improve upon it.
I've read a bit about this and will do more study. I try to do the same...love others the way God loves us but it's a challenge.. blessings to you Magpie!

Actually this is why the main message of Jesus Chris is forgiveness. It’s the ultimate cure
