I would agree with you here... but I think the point Schiff is making is that for most of the history of humans, puberty was the "line in the sand" and just like straight lines on a map created by people who usually don't live in the war torn countries that are getting divided up against their will... modern society is putting arbitrary ages into law...
A kid has to be X to have sex with people older than Y
A kid can't drink at 18 or carry a hand gun... BUT they can sign up to make a faggot ass senator from NC rich by fighting in a war he knows nothing about...
You can't get the money YOU put into YOUR mandatory "Savings Account" until you are 63... and now we want to move the goal post...
so on and so forth...
Funny thing for me here is... WTF is an economist / gold bug doing talking about this shit for?
and yes.. mental and physical are separate timelines... but nature vs nurture... comes into play too... the hispanic cultures are very cool with their 13 year olds running arount with their boobs hanging out and them hooking up young...
Same in africa...
way back. in ole billy shakespears time...or in ancient greece or rome they were cool with 13 yos...
Victorian england / puritan is where our laws / ethos get a major lineage from...
but then again... we had 4 and 5 year olds working in factories and losing fingers and limbs as late as the 1910s maybe 20s...
I've been working since I was 12 and compared to them, I'm a wus...
Now people in their 40s and I have seen 50s are like children...
Just kinda odd that an economist talks about it... (que the bart simpson what an odd thing to say meme)
I bought gold and silver years ago based on his advice. He is funny and smart and very likeable in person. I don't know why he felt he had to throw his hat into this particular subject. I'll have to look into reading this book. I have seen him in person 3 times, and still watch his podcasts occasionally. Kudos to you for giving your children financial education, more parents need to do that.
It's a great book for kids and adults... it's almost like a comic book...
Another great one is called Economix... which IS a cartoon book...
You just have to take the commie / socialist crap at the end with a grain of salt... but it explains the concepts going from Adam Smith thru modern economists even Laffer I think...

Almost as if he is defending something he will be revealed as having done himself.
Btw, developed sexually and developed mentally/emotionally go along separate timelines. The age law is not arbitrary.
Kinda what crossed my mind too...

Good point. I like Peter Schiff and have gone to his seminars but this seems way off track for him.
Yeah... his book "how an economy grows and why it crashes" is one I had my kids reading in middle school and I recommend it to everyone...
Just kinda weird...

He leans too heavy on the "mixed economy"
