I have one 5th grade student, a beautiful Bangladeshi girl, whose father told me that she's never been vaccinated. Japanese schools have no vaccine requirements, which is good. I told him privately that this is for the best. She had the first winter of her life, experiencing snow for the first time even. She never once got sick all winter long while her classmates kept getting sick.
I came down with influenza in December and one of my students asked me about it. I told her I hadn't had the flu since January 2020, and she said that she's had it three times in the past couple of years. Crazy.
