When the Constitution was written, Religion meant Christianity. Everything else was considered pagan, heathen or unbelief. But we no longer understand this and have read the current definition of "religion" back into the founding documents.
Read the founders. Do you think they wanted to make a nation for the Turks? For the Barbary pirates? For the Jews. No way. Unlike most today, they were not stupid and understood civilization.
Which is why I will keep saying we need to amend the 1st Amendment to Freedom of Christian denomination only.
