Umm...as a Native Floridian, I can tell you we're getting tired of the influx.

Stay where you are and fix your State before moving down here and ruining ours.

Just kidding (not really). Fair warning: incoming rant, so prepare yourselves...

Listen, all isn't well down here. We have a corrupt legislature and bureaucracies at every level selling our land off in favor of golf courses and cheaply made "luxury homes" that can barely withstand thunderstorm force winds, let alone hurricanes. We have numerous NGOs introducing Frankenstein like insects in an attempt to control Frankenstein like viruses (make that make sense please). Our roads are some of the worst in the nation (I've been to countries with roads far older that are in better condition than ours). I-4, I-75, I-95, and many others have been under a perpetual state of "expansion and/or repair" since they first started over 60 yrs ago. Why? Because this State has been in a permanent state of expansion since the boom started in the early 1900's. They're also some of the most dangerous roads to drive anywhere in this country. We rank #1 in fatalities and injuries nationally and rank higher than most countries.

One of the most beautiful and unique ecosystems in the world is being poisoned and destroyed so everyone can have cheap sugar for their morning coffee or tea, and our once prized item of liquid gold, the Florida Navel Orange is being replaced with crappy imports, allowing the land to be sold off for pennies on the dollar for more strip malls and the "luxury homes" I mentioned earlier. I grew up being able to drive for over a hundred miles and see nothing but orange groves. And now? Now there's over a dozen communities where those groves once stood. It's the same for the Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp. I grew up camping in areas of both that now house towns and cities.

Our waters are being poisoned to the point that our once great fishing spots are being destroyed with blue-green and red algae blooms, there's trash in our waterways in areas where there's no permanent human habitation, our manatees are now dying off in droves, we're up to our nether regions with invasive species of plants and animals and insects, so many that it would take generations to clean it all up, so the best we can do at this point is try to manage them to a point where we won't be overwhelmed.

We used to be the second largest cattle producing state in the Union, and even that's changing in favor of crappy housing developments and new Publix stores (where shopping is no longer a pleasure, but a crash course in credit spending debt cycles of misery and pain). And I don't care what DeSantis says, all anyone has to do is look up to see that we're still being sprayed to death. Why? Because the jet stream flows West-East, so that "law" doesn't matter, we're still being poisoned. In fact, at the time of this writing, I can count upwards of 50 different trails in the sky and a few being actively sprayed right now that originated in Orlando and Miami, and that sky itself is currently a milky whitish-blue color, not the deep blue I remember seeing even 25-30 yrs ago. My kids don't even know what the true color of sky is supposed to look like unless I remind them by showing them decades old, yellowing photographs (cue Nickleback now).

So, unless you're willing to buy an older, preexisting home on older roads with crappy drainage (hint, Florida is a swamp so the drainage sucks everywhere), and you're willing to help us save this beautiful State, stay where you're at and fix the mess y'all helped create in your own backyards instead of moving down here and creating more messes for us who are born and bred down here to clean up. We're tired, exasperated, and just want to be able to enjoy the wonders and beauty of Florida before it gets swallowed up.

Yeah, I'm more than a little "irritated." Some of you will say I'm doomfagging, but it's more akin to extreme anger than dooming. I was born here, grew up here, and with the exception of 9 pain filled, yet pretty fun years of Naval service, I've lived here, able to enjoy the natural wonders and beauty Florida has to offer. But enough is enough. Our land is suffering. Stay where you're at and fix your own messes. (Sometimes I think Agent Smith was right when he called humanity a virus, because you people miving down here by the thousands daily sure as hell act like it.)
