It’s not a particularly unusual phenomenon. Especially for lower income families that suddenly enter into lots of money. Or for people such as Lotto Winners.

Also why professional Sports Players from poorer roots often end up damn near broke when they retire.

People who are used to not having much and for one reason or another don’t see much of a reason behind things like saving or planning beyond the short term.

Don’t often know what to do or how to respond when shitloads of money are dropped into their laps beyond spending it. Regardless of the reason they came into the money in the first place.
