It was by drunk driving at 100mph. Not murder, but if he’s here illegally AND kills someone enforcing the law, that should carry some different consequence.
Is 10 years for killing someone by driving drunk an unreasonable sentence in general? Maybe, maybe not. In the OT, unintentional killings did not result in the death penalty. Driving 100mph while drunk is very arguably not “unintentional”, of course, but the murder itself was only reckless.
Is it an unreasonable sentence for someone who is already living here illegally? Seems safe to say, yes.
u/M42D ‘s death sentence suggestion is probably justifiable, but I’m not deeply familiar with the full scope of law (not statutes) pertaining to killings.
The more definite problem here is that they’re trying him as if he should be protected by our laws and freedoms, rather than as a foreigner who killed one of us.
