Look, it is "possible" that Musk and Trump are so at odds that Musk is willing to hand government control back to the Dems with this maneuver. But wildly unlikely. Musk knows that his new party would peel GOP votes away and cause Dems to win every race where a third party candidate is in play.
No way he prefers Dem control to Trump and team.

This is all being done for effect. Trump didn't want to raise the debt limit. But he needed to do it in order to get the border secured, stop the judges who keep saying they hate his executive orders, make his tax cuts permanent, etc. Now on to phase II of killing the Fed and lowering our national debt. And suddenly, Musk is on board again and saying he and Trump are best buds.
It's impossible to imagine that Trump and Musk didn't talk about this very strategy many times.
