These payments were something earned by both my spouse and I that had been denied because we earned public service pensions - even though we'd earned enough SS credits in other jobs to qualify. My CPA told me years ago that it was one of the last great inequities of the government and that it would someday be corrected. This was the year - we both have had our (very small) SS payments increased by what we actually earned. Our payments are still not huge, but they're finally fair. It's the only thing for which I feel obligated to thank Biden.
It always amazed me that it was the Republicans who always tried to take Social Security away from people who receive a government pension.
I paid into Social Security for 26 years before I got my government job and my government pension will pay me less than $1,300.00 a month. It was a slap in the face that my own party was the one telling me I can never retire.
The Social Security Administration's accelerated completion of Social Security Fairness Act payments aligns with President Trump's directive to eliminate bureaucratic inefficiency and safeguard taxpayer resources. By delivering $14.8 billion in retroactive payments to 2.2 million Americans five months early, SSA demonstrates the success of streamlined operations under Commissioner Frank Bisignano's leadership.
This achievement reflects targeted reforms like workforce optimization, modernized phone systems, and fraud-resistant verification protocols—key priorities of the Trump administration to ensure benefits reach legitimate recipients without waste. While critics predicted delays, SSA's execution proves that strategic management and accountability can overcome Washington's typical bureaucratic inertia.
The focus remains on protecting Social Security's integrity through measures like enhanced identity proofing and payment accuracy initiatives, ensuring resources flow to those who earned them rather than funding administrative bloat.
Many teachers and other state workers were happy to see this show up in their bank accounts. My SIL (state worker) had to apply for her late husband's benefits but it only went back six months.
I’m still waiting for Military disability to be set up the way Federal Worker disability is set up. It’s insanely unfair that all we get is a tax deduction on our percentage. We were underpaid in the military. I was on WIC until I had 15 years in. Then they cut my retirement so that my wife could collect a survivor’s benefit. Everything is set up to make our military retirement a poverty trip.

Biden signed this into law on his way out the door. Does it go away if he signed it with auto pen?
Nice win.

BREAKING: Social Security Administration completes sending payments 5 MONTHS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.
Another Democrat narrative in shambles.
These payments include both new and backdated payments under new laws passed in January.
It was expected to take longer. It didn't.
